Lake Blackshear is fishing very well right now, with water temperatures climbing into the mid-70s.
Crappie are starting to transition into their summer pattern, moving out to trash piles in 15–20 feet of water. You can still pick up a few late spawners around deeper trees in 4–5 feet. A 1/32 oz jig head paired with an electric chicken pin tail minnow has been working great, along with live minnows under a slip cork.
Bluegill fishing is on fire. As we head toward the May full moon, it’s only going to get better. Crickets under a cork in 2–5 feet of water around trees have been very productive. We’ve also been catching some big bluegill on the fly, which always makes for a fun trip.
